About Our Office

The Lot 9 Team

Originally established as Sam Laffin Architect in 2014, Lot 9 Architects was restructured in 2019 as a partnership between Sam Laffin and Kristin James.

Sam Laffin, OAA

Prior to studying architecture Sam completed an Honours BA at Mount Allison University and the foundation year at NSCAD. Following graduation from Dalhousie University’s School of Architecture in 2007, Sam worked in the office of O’Donnell + Tuomey in Dublin. After returning to Canada he gained formative experience with Ian MacDonald Architect, working for over 5 years on award-winning modern residential projects. In 2014 Sam established Sam Laffin Architect in his hometown of Kingston, Ontario.

Kristin James, OAA

Kristin has over 10 years’ experience working on projects in both the institutional and private sectors that range from small-scale renovations to new, large-scale buildings. Following graduation from Dalhousie University with a Master of Architecture she worked for Denis Byrne Architects in Dublin where she was exposed to the high level of design rigour found in Irish architectural culture. Upon returning to Ontario she worked for Cannon Design in Toronto, gaining experience in mid- to large-scale institutional projects. After relocating to Kingston, Kristin joined the office of Shoalts and Zaback Architects Ltd. and worked on a wide variety of projects including work for Queen’s University and St. Lawrence College.
